A camshaft position sensor is used to determine the engine’s position in the timing cycle. The information is used to provide individual cylinder ignition and injection controls so that the valves are opening and closing as they should be. When this sensor goes bad, the timing can advance and you could be looking at a costly repair. This sensor is located in the cylinder head.
