Exterior Light Bulb Sockets provide power to the bulbs that mark and illuminate the outside of a car, truck, or SUV. Because these connection points are exposed to harsher outside conditions, it is not uncommon for oxidization to occur and cause premature failure in some model ranges of European vehicles.
Most modern vehicle manufacturers equip some type of dashboard warning system when an exterior light is not functioning. After confirming that a bulb itself is not bad, the bulb socket is the next logical place to inspect and test for power. Commonly corrosion on these sockets can cause error messages on the dash claiming a light bulb is out, when it isn’t, so try cleaning these first. If the contacts are especially bad, you will need to replace the socket.
