The exhaust manifold collects the post-combustion gases from multiple cylinders and routes them into the exhaust pipe. The manifold is attached to the cylinder head, and the unit is sealed with an exhaust manifold gasket. Over time, your exhaust manifold and the gasket itself may develop leaks and holes. When leaks develop between the engine and the exhaust manifold, your engine will lose power and may become extremely noisy. If your engine is making a lot more noise under the hood than it used to, check the exhaust manifold gasket for any cracks and replace a damaged gasket. Putting your hand around the manifold while having a friend rev the engine is an easy way to feel pinhole exhaust leaks, just be careful not to touch the surfaces as they are hot!
