Description
An often overlooked, yet important part of your engine is the drive belt. These belts transfer power from the crankshaft to important things like your power steering pump, generator, water pump, and A/C compressor. If your drive belt is getting old, cracking, glazing, or squeaking, it's time to replace it. Generally speaking, every 6 years or 60,000-80,000 miles it's a good idea to replace this belt for preventive maintenance.
Checking for belt wear is easy! Just look at it. Visually, the belt will begin to glaze on the underside, making it far less effective. Cracks can appear on the back of the belt from “dry rot” caused by exposure to engine heat or age. Squealing is common on worn belts which basically means that the belt is slipping on pulleys. Also inspect your pulleys. You don't want to put a good belt on rusty and pitted pulleys. Check out our selection of pulleys to keep your new drive belt from making noise and becoming damaged.
