Auxiliary Fan Shroud

The radiator fan shroud in your BMW surrounds the cooling fan blades. It concentrates ram and fan air flows through the radiator to improve heat transfer. It also protects anyone working beneath the hood from the spinning fan blades and water or debris the fan may sling when spinning.

Shrouds tend to crack over time from heat cycling and vibration. If your shroud is damaged, it should be replaced before loose shroud pieces break away, causing personal injury or damage to other underhood components. This part is not difficult to replace.
