Contact Spiral

This contact spiral, sometimes called a clock spring, is what allows electrical components in the steering wheel to send and receive electrical signals. Components such as the horn, airbag and any switches mounted in the steering wheel depend on this contact spiral.

This contact spiral assembly also incorporates a steering angle sensor, which tells the ABS and traction control modules the exact degree of angle the steering wheel is at.

If this contact spiral assembly fail, you may be presented with several illuminated warning lights on your instrument cluster, failure of the traction control or ABS, as well as a horn or steering wheel buttons that will not function.
