Cooling Fan Clutch

Without a properly functioning cooling system, your engine will overheat which can damage the engine. One of the components in the cooling system that needs to be kept in proper working order is the cooling fan clutch.

The cooling fan clutch is thermally activated, meaning it is open until it reaches a certain temperature and then it lock up, allowing the fan to cool the engine. Unfortunately, the fan clutch does not last forever, and over time the special fluid that is inside will leak out, causing the fan to no longer be able to lock up to cool the engine.

If your fan clutch is no longer strong enough to spin the fan and cool the engine, it must be replaced to keep the cooling system working efficiently.

If you are replacing your fan clutch, now would be the perfect time to inspect any other components in your vehicles' cooling system, and replace any that are starting to show their age.
