Description
Commonly used in all wheel drive and front wheel drive vehicles, constant-velocity joint refers to a universal joint that permits a rotating shaft to transmit power through a variable angle without increasing friction, at constant rotational speed. Basically, CV joints allow the drive shaft to trasmit power at a constant speed without an increase in friction and play. Needless to say, this is a rather important bit of kit that needs protected. Luckily, CV Boots do just that.
CV Joints can last quite a long time, just as long as the boot doesn't get damaged. Once this happens, the grease comes out and the moisture and dirt come in, causing the CV joint to wear faster and eventually fail due to lack of lubrication and corrosion. A common symptom of a badly-worn CV joint is a clicking or popping noise when turning.
If you can catch a worn down boot early, it could save you time and money. If you let it go, a badly worn CV joint can disintegrate while driving causing the vehicle to stop.
