E21 Fuel Pressure Accumulator

If you have noticed hard starts in your BMW or a whining noise coming from the electric fuel pump, a failed fuel pressure accumulator may be to blame.

The fuel pressure accumulator is used to maintain pressure in the fuel system after the engine has been shut off in order to facilitate faster re-starts. While the engine is running, the pressure accumulator is used to dampen some of the sound made by the electric fuel pump.

If you suspect a failed fuel pressure accumulator, it must be replaced in order to keep your car running properly. If you are replacing your fuel pressure accumulator, now would be the perfect time to replace your fuel filter as well.
