Description
Sometimes it's those little things that get you during a motor swap. Like an oil cooler bracket. Most E30 motor swaps end up with some janky mount in the rush/excitement to get the motor swap done in hopes to coming back to it eventually (which never happens). Sometimes it just doesn't ever end up getting installed, which is pretty bad considering your M20 had an OEM oil cooler. Oil coolers protect your E30 from extreme temperatures that could damage your motor swap. Pushing your high-performance E30 to the limit requires low oil temperatures to prevent failure or even seizure of the engine. Well, we ran into this situation with our Kswap-E30. Posted a few pictures of our basic, but effective solution and TONS of people had the same problem we did. Garagistic put it into production! Made a fully reversible, no modification needed, Black anodized Aluminum 6061 E30 oil cooler bracket to be used with Mishimoto MMOC-19BK 19 row oil cooler.
Garagistic mount uses existing holes found in your OEM E30 radiator support. Comes with all hardware needed to go from radiator support to oil cooler. It's that simple. Fully reversible if need be. Garagistic chooses the MMOC-19BK 19-row oil cooler for a few reasons. Its compact but efficient size. It's lighter than OEM aluminum construction with massive -10an inlet and outlets. And its ability to be tucked cleanly behind the E30 kidney grills instead of the OEM units "in-the-line-of-fire" low position. Not to mention the OEM one cannot be used with motor swaps without serious modification anyway. It does not get in the way of slim Spal pusher or puller fans. They can be mounted above or below bracket depending on your configuration.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Recommend fitting a quality one-way oil check valve on the oil cooler's feed line to ensure oil remains in the cooler after shutdown under any circumstance.
