The intake and exhaust manifolds play a crucial role in helping the engine in your Mercedes-Benz. Without these manifolds, air and fuel could not enter the combustion chambers to be burned, and exhaust gasses could not be expelled.
As you may be aware, the engine in your Mercedes-Benz has a unique design, which places the intake and exhaust manifolds on the same side of the cylinder head, and they share the same gasket. This means that in order to service one manifold, you must also service the other one at the same time.
While these gaskets may last a very long time, they are not immune to failure. Small cracks can develop in the manifold gaskets, leading to annoying exhaust leaks which can really take away from the experience of driving your Mercedes-Benz.
If your gasket has seen better days, or if you are removing either manifold, the gasket must be replaced. This gasket prevents any air leaks from either manifold, and keeps your engine running as designed.
