Description
The engine oil in your Mercedes-Benz is critical for proper lubrication and a long engine life, and just as crucial as the type and cleanliness of the engine oil is the amount of oil in your engine.
The oil level sensor is designed to illuminate a warning indicator on the instrument cluster to alert you of a condition in which there is too much or too little oil in your engine, both of which can cause engine damage.
Just like any other electrical sensor, the oil level sensor can fail, and when it does it can cause the oil level indicator to illuminate when there is no dangerous oil level condition, or worse, not illuminate when there is a dangerous oil level condition.
If you think your oil level sensor has failed, it must be replaced. If you are replacing your oil level sensor, make sure you have everything you need to do the job correctly, including enough engine oil to top off what was lost when you replaced the sensor.
