The power steering reservoir cap ensures that no fluid is lost during engine operation and also serves as a fluid level dipstick for the power steering fluid. A faulty cap can cause the constantly flowing fluid in your power steering system to leak out, leaving your fluid level low. If enough fluid is lost, it can cause internal damage to the power steering rack, which would then need replaced.
