Parking brake shoes are the fixed linings in a drum brake system. The parking brake shoes can either be riveted or bonded to a steel backing plate and are activated by a wheel cylinder that pushes on the brake shoes so that they make contact with the brake drums which are fixed to the hub. To inspect the parking brake shoes, the drum must be removed.
