The power windows rely not only on a switch and a motor, but also a regulator to function properly. The window regulator is the part of the window lift mechanism that moves to allow the window to move up and down. Over the years though, window regulators can wear out and break.
If your windows have started moving very slowly, making grinding sounds when going up or down or just not moving at all, it may be time to replace your window regulator.
