Description
High performance DOT 4 brake fluid has high dry and wet boiling points. See label for restrictions
Most brake fluid is glycol-based and complies with DOT 3, Dot 4, or DOT 5.1 standards. Glycol based fluids are hygroscopic, meaning they readily absorb moisture. Water content is critical; brake fluids contain additive packages to prevent corrosion damage caused by moisture. Water also lowers the boiling point and raises the temperature at which the fluid will freeze. To avoid adding moisture to the brake system, use fresh brake fluid from a factory-sealed container.
Periodic flushing and refilling of the brake hydraulic system with fresh fluid removes moisture and replenishes additives. Refer to OEM maintenance recommendations for details. Safety note: Brake fluid is toxic, and spills will damage many painted surfaces. Use with caution and wear eye protection.
