Description
The propeller shaft sends power from the transmission to the rear differential, and in order to do so, it must be quite long. In many cases, the propeller shaft is in two pieces, making a center support necessary.
This center support houses a bearing, which supports the propeller shaft under the vehicle. The bearing is surrounded by rubber to dampen vibrations, but like all rubber joints, it will eventually wear out and cause undesirable driveline vibrations and noise. The bearing will also wear out, causing a growl noise at higher speed, similar to a wheel bearing noise.
If you think your propeller shaft center support may be at the end of its life, replace it today to keep your Mercedes-Benz driving as well as it did when it was new. While performing this repair, be sure to inspect your flex discs and replace if they show any signs of cracking.
