Description
The sway bar is connected to the control arms by rigid rods referred to as “links.” Sway bar ball joints or bushings take constant abuse that includes stress, impact, and vibration as wheels are jarred by paving bumps, pot holes, and the occasional road hazard. As a wear item, they eventually get loose or bind, leading to noises that range from creaking to loud knocking.
The only cure is link replacement, and ECS recommends replacing links as axle pairs for best results. While you're at it, check the stabilizer bushings as well.
