Description
The sway bar, also known as the anti-roll bar or stabilizer bar is one of those components in the suspension that not many people think about. The sway bar is used to reduce body roll over irregular roads or during fast cornering. It does this by connecting opposite (left and right) wheels together.
The sway bar attaches to the vehicle using brackets, and to isolate the sway bar from the vehicles chassis and the brackets, bushings are used. These bushing are made of rubber though, so over the years they will begin to break down and will no longer isolate the sway bar as intended.
If you have started to notice a clunking sound when going over uneven road, it may be time to replace your sway bar bushings. While you are at it, this would be the perfect time to inspect and replace any other suspension components that are starting to show their age. Euromotiv carries a full line of suspension components and hardware for your Mercedes-Benz to help you keep it driving as well as it did when it was new.
