The thermostat in your Mercedes-Benz V8 engine has an important job, and that job is to regulate the flow of engine coolant to keep you engine running at the proper temperature at all times.

A failing thermostat will usually present itself in one of two ways, either stuck closed, leading to rapid overheating, which will cause engine damage, or stuck open, causing your engine to take a long time to reach operating temperature, which will lead to poor fuel economy, and a lack of heat from the climate control system.
