If you are replacing or just re-packing your wheel bearings, replacing the inner wheel bearing seal is a must.
This seal presses into the back of the hub to prevent moisture and contaminates from entering the wheel bearing housing. In order to remove the wheel bearings for service, this seal must be removed first, and it is usually destroyed in the process.
